I got to go camping on Assateague Island July '05. We stayed in the Maryland National Park section of the island.

It poured on the drive to the island--we were afraid the weekend was going to be a washout.

Once we got there, the rain had taken a break. This is checking in at the ranger station.

Looking down from the dune towards the parking lot (and the all-important showers and porta-potties).

We got lucky in that nobody stayed in the campsite next door the first night.

The main dune was immense--but still didn't block out all the wind (which at one point was strong enough to blow over several of the bigger tents in the campsite).

The ocean was that close to the campsite. Always nice to go to sleep to the sounds of the waves!

Woohoo--the beach!
